Istnieje taka teoria, że Ziemia miała kiedyś siostrę o imieniu Thea. Planety zderzyły się ze sobą. Uderzenie było tak silne, że dwa ciała złączyły się w jedno. Od tej pory Ziemia zaczęła zmieniać swój kąt nachylenia w ciągu całego cyklu obrotu wokół słońca. Powstały pory roku. Odłamki planet wirujące wokół Ziemi uformowały Księżyc. W czasach starożytnych ludzie dostrzegając cykliczność faz Księżyca i zmiany w przyrodzie tworzyli pierwsze kalendarze słoneczno-księżycowe. W czasach gotyku kalendarze miały formę ilustrowanych książeczek, ten najbardziej znany, malowany przez braci Limbourg, został włączony do manuskryptu godzinek księcia de Berry. Ilustrował nie tylko hierarchiczność społecznej tkanki, ale też przemiany zachodzące w naturze. Obrazy z których składa się kalendarz na 2023 rok nawiązują do obecnych w historii malarstwa przedstawień raju. Zestawione razem tworzą wizję świata w którym możliwe jest podróżowanie w czasie. Mogą one przywołać wspomnienia z przeszłości, mogą też przenosić myśli do świata fantazji. Zdarzenia z przeszłości mogą stać się teraźniejszością ukazując symultanicznie wizję raju, w której właśnie wydarza się apokalipsa. Albo inaczej katastrofę, przed którą schronić się jeszcze można w mitycznym edenie.

Calendar 2023.There is a theory that the Earth had once had a sister named Thea. The planets collided. The force of the collision was so great that the two bodies became one. Since then, the Earth began changing its inclination angle in one complete revolution around the Sun. Seasons emerged. Planetary shards rotating around the Earth formed the Moon. In ancient times, people observing the cyclicality of the Moon’s phases and weather changes created the first lunisolar calendars. During the Gothic period, calendars took the form of illustrated booklets and the most renowned, painted by the Limbourg brothers, was included in the illuminated manuscript of Duke de Berry’s Book of Hours. Not only did it depict the hierarchical structure of the social fabric, but also changes taking place in nature.
Paintings that make up the 2023 calendar allude to representations of paradise from the history of Western painting. Juxtaposed, they create a vision of a world where traveling in time is possible. They can evoke memories of the past as well as transport our thoughts to a fantasy world. Events from the past can become the present in this simultaneous presentation of a vision of paradise where the apocalypse is under way. Or else, a disaster against which we can shelter in a mythical Eden.
